Are headaches related to the TMJ?

Yes. Headaches may be related to TMJ pain as well as neck pain. The trigeminal nerve that supplies the head, also supplies the face and TMJ. The nerves in the neck cross communicate with the trigeminal nerve.

Dr. Ram, the specialist in this area, will listen to your history and perform a thorough clinical evaluation including a cranial nerve exam and any necessary radiographs or scans or MRI and will provide a diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your condition.

What are the available treatments?

In most headache cases Dr. Ram will examine you and provide a diagnosis and then refer you to a Nerurologist for further management. Dr. Ram will work closely with the Neurologist and will manage you with the TMJ pain and face pain. Most headaches require medications including triptans, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, anti convulsants and tricyclic antidepressants.
